Classes are limited in size to 8 students to allow for a high degree of personal instruction, particularly at the range.  These classes are limited to VSS Members ONLY. 
The Villages Straight Shooters Personal Security In the Home are approximately 3.5 hours of classroom work, at Pat's Pawn & Gun, 2301 E Hwy 441, plus 3 hours of range time.  The lecture portion of the class will be held from 8 am until 11:30am.  Pat's Pawn & Gun is located just south of the Harley-Davidson Dealership on Hwy 441, on the right side of the road driving south.  You should bring the items listed below and wear appropriate range attire.

​Class Fees & Prerequisites: 
VSS Personal Security course participants must be experienced shooters (mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing the firearm, and cleaning the firearm) to maximize what can be learned from this course. Validation of shooting experience can be one of the following plus recent range time and shooting skill development:
  • NRA Basic Pistol Course or equivalent
  • Participation in Winchester / NRA Marksmanship Pistol
         Qualification Program and or Bullseye Shooting

Members may cancel activities themselves, and receive refunds when the activity is a week or more in the future. Alternatively, the member may request assistance by emailing the club at reservations.sys@vssclub.org. Members must request cancellations and refunds by email if the activity date is within a week. In this case, refunds will issue if the club can backfill the cancellation with another member.

Other Requirements:
Individuals taking this class must bring the specific gun they use or intend to use for home defense.  The caliber of the gun should be 9 mm or larger.  The student must bring 150 rounds of ammunition for their gun to the class. FMJ or Target ammo is sufficient.   Gun rentals or ammo purchases are not offered for this class.


Class enrollees should bring the following items to the class: 
  • Lunch and refreshments as needed
  • Note pad
  • Pen/Pencil & Highlighter

Class enrollees should bring the following items to the range:
  • A pistol, 9 mm or larger caliber, and 150 rounds of ammo. (Gun must be carried in a gun bag or case)
  • Eye & Ear Protection
  • Billed hat, high neckline shirt, no open toed shoes

The lecture portion of the class will be held at Pat's Pawn & Gun.  The range exercises will be held at the Emeralda Gun Range.
