Personal Security II - Outside the Home

Gain Knowledge, Skills, and Attitude Essential for Carrying a Concealed Firearm Outside of the Home and be able to Utilize the Firearm Responsibly and Effectively in a Self-Defense Situation

Classroom time is from 8:00 a.m. through 11:30 p.m. at Pat's Pawn & Gun. Range time is from 12:30 through 6:00 p.m. at Emeralda Range. Don't forget to bring your lunch and refreshments.

​Classes are limited in size to 8 students to allow for a high degree of personal instruction, particularly at the range. 

This class is limited to VSS Members ONLY.  
The Villages Straight Shooters Personal Security II - Outside of the Home class is approximately 9 hours of classroom & range work. The 3.5 hour classroom portion will be conducted at the Pat's Pawn & Gun classroom located at 2301 E Hwy 441. The following morning classroom time, students will have approximately 5.5 hours of range time at the Emeralda range. 

The lecture portion of the class will be held from 8 am until approximately 11:30 pm.  You should bring a lunch, refreshments, plus pen and paper.  You will not need a firearm for the classroom portion of the class.

For the range exercises you will need the following items:
  • Concealed Carry Centerfire handgun,
    • preferably 9mm or better (.380 acceptable if that is your carry gun and you have an OWB holster)
    • The gun may have a Laser
  • At least two magazines
  • 250 rounds of ammunition (FMJ range ammo preferred)
  • Strong side OWB carry holster
    • Type I or II
    • No finger release holsters allowed like the Serpa brand.
  • Eye & Ear Protection
  • Concealment Garment
  • Proper Range Attire
  • Lunch & Refreshments
​Class Fees & Prerequisites: 

Personal Security II - Outside of the Home course participants must be experienced shooters (mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing the firearm, and cleaning the firearm) to maximize what can be learned from this course.

Course prerequisites are detailed at the link below.  Please do not enroll in the course unless you are confident that you meet the requirements.


You will be contacted prior to the class to verify or demonstrate your shooting skills and abilities that meet or exceed the course prerequisites. 

Fees for the class are $135 which covers course materials, range fees and all other costs associated with the course.  Ammo will not be provided or available for purchase.

Members may cancel activities themselves, and receive refunds when the activity is a week or more in the future. Alternatively, the member may request assistance by emailing the club at reservations.sys@vssclub.org. Members must request cancellations and refunds by email if the activity date is within a week. In this case, refunds will issue if the club can backfill the cancellation with another member. ​
